The Kenyan Morine Gesare Michira lowers the race record again to 1h10'31" (previous 1h10'54") while the Burundian Oliver Irabaruta wins in 1h05'16". Third step of the podium, among women, for the Italian Arianna Lutteri in 1h22'23".
Venice, 26 May 2024 – Africa is once again the protagonist of the 'moonlight' half marathon which last night in Jesolo saw around 6,000 competitors parade in the three distances (21K, 10K and 3K) and applauded the new record of the women's race 1h10'31” signed again this year by the Kenyan Morine Gesare Michira. Among the men, the victory went to the Burundian Oliver Irabaruta who won in an easy 1h05'16".
The men's race started at a rather slow pace, dictated by Irabaruta and the Kenyan Peter Wahome Murithi. The dispute was resolved only a few meters from the finish line, when Oliver Irabaruta managed to overtake Murithi, who finished second in 1h05'31", with a delay of 15". The all-African podium is completed by the other Burundian Onesphore Nzikwinkunda, third in 1h06'23".
Among the women, the race developed at a very fast pace, with Morine Gesare Michira immediately separating all her opponents, passing the 10K in a fast 33'00". In the second part, also thanks to a bit of headwind blowing along the seafront, the pace dropped slightly but this did not prevent Michira from improving her fresh 2023 record. Second, very far behind, came the Portuguese Vanessa Carvalho ( 1h14'13”) while the Italian Arianna Lutteri took the third step of the podium in 1h22'23”.
“Lowering the race record was my main goal this evening and I'm really happy to have succeeded" - says Morine, a 25-year-old Kenyan, originally from a region north-west of Kenya, at the finish line, but who during the competitive season lives and trains in Varese with the Run2gether group together with Murithi.
During the evening, a special 'BMW Ceccato Motors' award was awarded to Sara Boer, the first Venetian to finish the half marathon, in eighth place.
Present to kick off the competitions and welcome the participants were the mayor of Jesolo Christofer De Zotti, the sports councilor Martina Borin, the president of Confcommercio San Donà-Jesolo Angelo Faloppa and Tommaso Trolese representing the Rotary District 2060.
The protagonists of the shortest race of 9,830 meters were the couple in life and training Nicolò Petrin and Francesca Tonin, both bearers of the Vicenza Marathon. Nicolò won the sprint in 32'02" ahead of Marco Filippi 32'03" and Huber Rossi 32'59". Francesca Tonin arrived alone and won in 37'28", ahead of Anna Frigerio 37'41" and Vanina Dal Santo 38'22".
The day was opened by the cheerful Alì Family Run by 3K, dedicated to families and children. The fastest were Michele Cason from Belluno (17 years old) and, in the women's field, twelve-year-old Anna Facchin from Jesolo, while the youngest competitor was 4-year-old Adele.

The curtain falls on a thirteenth edition which has also enjoyed great success this year. “Growing in numbers again this year was not a given and for this reason too we are very satisfied with the results and with the economic and promotional impact that this event generates for Jesolo and its territory. Next year we could propose to the municipal administration some changes to the route, to give our athletes new emotions and different landscape views. Among other things, we have noted the high loyalty to this competition among a large number of participants and for this reason we
we would like to include new elements from 2025, the year in which Jesolo will, among other things, also be 'European City of Sport 2025' - these are the words of the president of Venicemarathon Piero Rosa Salva.
