The 3rd edition of the Moonlight Half Marathon is getting closer and it is already a great success: both in registrations and in countries represented at the event! In fact the cap of the race has been reached. This international half marathon organized by the Venicemarathon Club together with the City Council of Jesolo and the one of Cavallino Treporti is well appreciated by foreign runners and this year the countries represented are 36.
Everything is ready for this third edition which starts at 8 pm from Lungomare San Felice in Cavallino Treporti and finishes in Piazza Mazzini in Jesolo.
The headquarters of the event is the Moonlight Village, the location where athletes have to come and pick their bib number up. Here they will start their adventure. The village is in Piazza Mazzini in Jesolo and it is open Friday, May 24 (from 3 to 9 pm) and Saturday, May 25 (from 9 am to 11 pm)
The nicest 2013 novelty is the live streaming video of the whole race which could be watched from 7.45 pm both on the official website of the race www.venicemarathon.it and on a mega screen set up in Piazza Mazzini in Jesolo. The race will also be pre recorded and broadcasted on RaiSport.
Along the race course there will be many music groups which will entertain spectators and will try to ease the tiredness of runners.
Athletes and curiosities
The favourite athletes are Domenico Ricatti and Giovanna Pizzato. Domenico Ricatti loves to run in Veneto and is fond of Venicemarathon team. The Apulian athlete tries again to do its best here at the 3rd Moonlight Half Marathon after the 4th place at the Venicemarathon of last year. Domenico is the 2011 Italian Champion of the 10,000 meters and the Italian champion on the 10 K road race in 2012. On the half marathon distance his personal best time is 1h04’00” ran in 2011 in Pieve di Cento. He is trained by Piero Incalza and he runs for the air force team. He will try to give a hard time to Wilson Busienei Kipkemei, whose personal best time is 1h01’39”, Jean Baptiste Simukeka (1h02’24”) and to Peter Bii (1h02’49”). Other good runners are Said Boudalia (1h03’30”) and Alberto Montorio.
After the victory of the Moonlight Half Marathon of last year Giovanna Pizzato has started to live a second sports life. Her personal best time is 1h15’40” and she will try to give a hard time to the Kenyan Helen Jepkurgat (1h11’16”) and Sylvia Kibiego Jepchirchir (1h14’36”) and to Maurizia Cunico and Monica Carlin.
The fast and spectacular race course could even see the setting of the new course record, the actual race course records were set by Robert Chemosin (Ken): 1h03’31” in 2012 and by Meryem Lamachi (Mar) 1h16’28” in 2011.
The registration cap was finally reached and the registrations have been closed. A great increase was registered by the foreign runners that reach number 500 and the countries represented have passed from 26 to 36. Out of these 36, 10 are from the rest of the world: over 60 runners come from USA. Almost all Italian regions are represented. These numbers show that the event is able to generate a tourism flow in a low season period and to create a new economic impact on the territory.
